“This song was inspired the passing of my abuela last year. At the time, I was over 5,000 miles away on tour in Europe. I decided to write a song about my family as a lullaby to help ease the pain. The first line I wrote was "When the weight of the world seems to pull you behind, just stop take a breath and rewind." These were actually the words of my late grandmother. I wrote this song a few weeks before she passed away so it holds a very special place in my heart.” — COQUÍ

WHAT THE ARTIST HAS TO SAY:

“Lighthouse was written about a past relationship, I think the content was pretty straightforward but what I really wanted to do with that song was experiment a little more with sound. I was influenced by Bon Iver & Future, and recorded 5-6 melodies on certain sections to create lush, wall-of-sound harmonies organically without any plugins. The sounds I chose when producing the song were also very "wet" sounding, replicating raindrops, streams of water, and other similar sounds in nature. 

Crows was written during a very personal time in 2015, and expresses feelings created by seeing my family struggle and trying to find out their (and subsequently my own) place within the world. The lyrics are also straightforward, talking about their divorce, hardworking efforts for little return, a sense of disillusionment with the routine of life, and environmental concerns. 

The video for both of these songs is focused on the visual feeling of a day or life gone by - the morning, a time for growing; the afternoon, a time for fun; and the evening, a time for reflection. The actual story told by the video is very loose and vague, the focus in the video here was a lot more on the feeling.” — Chow Mane

Beatmakers, MC’s, and label owners… rising collective La Fine Equipe released their new music video for ‘What Eva’ (feat. J. Medeiros) last week and it’s definitely worth checking out. Gathering influence from the sounds of J Dilla, Mos Def, and Madlib. The sounds curated by the collective are original and exciting.

The four French beat-makers, Oogo, Chomsky, Mr, Gib and Blanka are only a couple months away from releasing their highly anticipated new album in March.

"We wanted it to look like a 90s VHS that was put on the VCR. Part of the charm was its fuzzy, imperfect look so apparent during that era. 'What Eva' embodies a strong DIY ethos and we the band, did most of the filming ourselves using a small handheld camcorder. Everything was filmed on location in the supermarket. There are no 3D models. The song and visual is also a homage to the strong visual elements often found in 90s music videos like Mc Solaar's 'New Western' and French hiphop outfit IAM's 'Je danse le Mia'. There is a surreal sequence in the video where we are surrounded by a kaleidoscopic display of supermarket products. To summarize, we had a complete blast filming this". — La Fine Equipe
