WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

Brandon From Addison released a new single just this last week and we’ve been bumping it around the office ever since. It’s catchy, it’s well-written, and we love the instrumentation because it’s simple and effective. The artist possesses a very unique sound and style that you can’t really compare to a lot of artists nowadays. So props for originality in both vocal and performance-wise. Pay attention to the lyrics as you listen along and check out some of the artist’s past work when you get a chance (they’re all this good).

It’s fun, it’s catchy, and there’s a unique personality behind her music that keeps you coming back for more. WHAT THE ARTIST HAS TO SAY:

"In the title track, Sweater Collection, I talk about how every old sweater in the back of my closet represents a failed/missed connection. Each song in the album is about those specific connections, so I thought it was only fitting to name the entire album Sweater Collection," says Lo Lo. "My collection of sweaters is in direct correlation with my collection of songs on the EP." ˆ— Lo Lo

March 14, 2019 by Gems Secrets in Indie

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

When it comes to writing from the heart, Hazlett’s latest is an honest reflection of just that. Titled ‘Fireworks’, we love the instrumentation. The entire soundscape from start to finish feels a bit like a dream. A dream that is slowly fading away. And of course, the vocal style is incredible. The lyrical depth behind Hazlett’s writing is powerful, it’s deep, it’s moving, but at its core… it’s emotional and it comes from a genuine place. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think down below. Don’t forget to connect with the artist online to stay up to date on any upcoming releases and enjoy!

WHAT THE ARTIST HAS TO SAY:

“I wrote this song after a night in Croatia with my then girlfriend. We bought some cheap fireworks from the corner store and set them off a rooftop after dinner. It was bittersweet, they made magic look so easy and all I wanted was for her to look at me like that. But I think if you have it, you have it. Love shouldn’t be work, love is magic.” — Hazlett

RK1, an album by Robokid on Spotify

Robokid's 'RK1' mixtape review (feat. Hotel Garuda, Kid Froopy, AObeats, & Manila Killa)

March 12, 2019 by Gems Secrets in Bedroom Pop, Electronic

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

Robokid released his mixtape Friday and we’ve had the entire project on repeat since. When we tried brainstorming what we would review (seeming how more than several of the tracks have already been featured on our platform) we decided to switch things up for once. So, let it be known, this isn’t so much a mixtape review, but more of an appreciation post for the amount of hard work that has been put into ‘RK1’.

Not only does the mixtape feature collaborations with artists like Hotel Garuda, Manila Killa, Kid Froopy, and AObeats.. but it includes 4 new tracks highlighting the diverse style of an artist that not only stands out creatively and lyrically, but further instills the idea that honing such a unique sound takes patience, determination, and of course, a lot of hard work.

Everything from the artwork, to the typography, to even the vocal effects and sound design are unique. And to be honest, we see a lot of artists attempt to do what Robokid is doing, but unfortunately, it just isn’t the same.

You can’t fake authenticity and that’s exactly what Robokid stands for. Even when it comes to his work outside of writing and producing music. The artist runs a record label, creates meaningful art, and even shares his love for the fashion world on a daily basis.

As you listen through, pay attention to the details of the track and to the lyrics. Pay attention to how the artist performs from track to track, and last, allow this project to inspire you in your own work going forward. Don’t forget to subscribe to the artist online to stay up to date on his upcoming tour with Slayyyter and enjoy!

WHAT THE ARTIST HAS TO SAY:

"This mixtape is special because it’s the first full-length body of work I am putting out after transitioning from DJ-ing and producing to writing and recording full songs. I wanted to develop a sound that was influenced by all my favorite music I loved while growing up mixed with today’s production styles. I feel that this mixtape is an exploration of the sonics of pop music from the late 80s and 90s, mixed with now, as well as laced with personal excerpts about the past and present." — Robokid

WHAT THE ARTISTS HAVE TO SAY:

“‘Downtown’ is a dreamy pop anthem about going “downtown” in more ways than one. Like all of our music, the record is very rooted in empowering women and our sexuality. We used the word “Downtown” as a playful sexual innuendo, it references our love of downtown New York City while also referencing going “downtown”. We’re both Geminis, so we love a dual meaning.” — RUUMER

All Your Days, a song by Shallou, Emmit Fenn on Spotify

Have you listened to Shallou and Emmit Fenn's latest yet? Stream 'All Your Days here:

March 08, 2019 by Gems Secrets in Electronic

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

You would have to go out of your way to say anything bad about Shallou and Emmit Fenn’s latest. Titled ‘All Your Days’, there’s a faint magic to the artist’s sound and when you really pay close attention, it’s all within the details of the track. Whether it’s the colorful soundscape, the bright vocals, or the cinematic textures throughout the instrumental, ‘All Your Days’ is a gem from the inside out. For fans of indie, electronic, or IDM, this track is right up your alley. Give it a listen and let us know what you think down below. Don’t forget to connect with the artists online to stay up to date on any future releases and enjoy!

WHAT THE ARTIST HAS TO SAY:

"Emmit originally wrote the demo for Coldplay, just his voice and keys. When he played it for me I knew we could come together and make something special that felt genuine to both of our sounds. We both wanted to express the simple moments of love. There’s so many songs about heartbreak that we’ve all written and heard on the radio, so we thought it would be nice to have a pretty song like this people can escape into or maybe reminisce with. Like a lot of my production, I like to infuse happy lyrics with a tinge of moody sounds to make them feel more emotional, and this track definitely exemplifies that." — Shallou
