WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

Robokid released his mixtape Friday and we’ve had the entire project on repeat since. When we tried brainstorming what we would review (seeming how more than several of the tracks have already been featured on our platform) we decided to switch things up for once. So, let it be known, this isn’t so much a mixtape review, but more of an appreciation post for the amount of hard work that has been put into ‘RK1’.

Not only does the mixtape feature collaborations with artists like Hotel Garuda, Manila Killa, Kid Froopy, and AObeats.. but it includes 4 new tracks highlighting the diverse style of an artist that not only stands out creatively and lyrically, but further instills the idea that honing such a unique sound takes patience, determination, and of course, a lot of hard work.

Everything from the artwork, to the typography, to even the vocal effects and sound design are unique. And to be honest, we see a lot of artists attempt to do what Robokid is doing, but unfortunately, it just isn’t the same.

You can’t fake authenticity and that’s exactly what Robokid stands for. Even when it comes to his work outside of writing and producing music. The artist runs a record label, creates meaningful art, and even shares his love for the fashion world on a daily basis.

As you listen through, pay attention to the details of the track and to the lyrics. Pay attention to how the artist performs from track to track, and last, allow this project to inspire you in your own work going forward. Don’t forget to subscribe to the artist online to stay up to date on his upcoming tour with Slayyyter and enjoy!

WHAT THE ARTIST HAS TO SAY:

"This mixtape is special because it’s the first full-length body of work I am putting out after transitioning from DJ-ing and producing to writing and recording full songs. I wanted to develop a sound that was influenced by all my favorite music I loved while growing up mixed with today’s production styles. I feel that this mixtape is an exploration of the sonics of pop music from the late 80s and 90s, mixed with now, as well as laced with personal excerpts about the past and present." — Robokid
