Michael Maxwell's work reminded me of some Tame Impala album art except I really wanted to touch it. You could still sense his hand in the objects, a quality I value after the art leaves its studio. These psychedelic scenes originate from digital layering and create a denser, more thoughtful assessment of the fractal. Rather than leaving the viewer in a dizzying abyss, he redeems the distortion by inserting pleasing pastels and earth tones into his color palate.
This was my first visit to Garis&Hahn. While the space lent itself to this exhibition generously (and probably would to most contemporary art), I'd prefer to see a more laid-back use of this location as it would certainly lend warmth to the viewership. Nonetheless, these visceral works definitely warranted a second go-around after adding the opening to my Instagram story.

Where: Junior High, Hollywood
Activist Faye Orlove's intimate, informal community space is one of my favorite places to get cultured in LA. Even NYLON magazine is obsessed. Junior High self-describes as a promoter of marginalized voices.
I've gone to a handful of events at the Hollywood upcycled storefront. Most memorable was the group show, Cosmic Not Exotic, an inward look at the fetishization of artists of color.
From workshops to pop-up shows to mounted exhibitions, Junior High will make you feel as inspired as your first slumber party did. All under the watchful eye of their patron saint, Olivia Benson.
Opening this weekend, Our Stories: Returning Home, explores lands, rituals and traditions we have always known.

I am fortunate enough to know some pretty incredible creatives. Being from the Bay Area and dedicating my liberal arts experience to interrogating makers has left me with an excess of really rad folks in my circle. Seeing The Dimension Collective come into being over the last six months has been a wonderful byproduct of this community. Last week they opened their doors and celebrated the release of the first volume of their zine.
Visual Arts Director Dominique Carella and her cohort are proof of the power of young people who are endlessly dedicated to their craft. The collective houses photographers, fashion designers, makeup artists, musicians, and a dance studio.
Seeing artists come together to advocate for their value and cultural necessity was exactly the way I want to kick off my summer. I have no doubt we'll be seeing more talent coming from TDC in the near future.

Montrell released a new music video yesterday for their new song 'Leaving Me Annie' and it's absolutely brilliant. The light instrumentation dances around a playful vocal performance from Montrell that's both warm and inviting. It's a great record to kick back and relax to but that's not even our favorite part.
To accompany the release, Montrell delivered an artsy visual to represent the catchy new release. We love the color palette and the cinematography and we look forward to hearing more from the artist in the coming months.

In 2015, scientists detected Gravitational Waves for the first time. My father was one of them. This is the story of 30 years of research, the discovery of a lifetime. We had the unique chance to shoot inside Virgo, the European Gravitational Waves observatory located in Pisa, Italy. Every shot is real.
It's Friday morning and we have a stacked lineup of releases to share with you. To get things started, we have this incredible... cinematic music video accompanying the new release from Parisian producer, Zimmer. The new release captures a tone from the artist that we felt was extremely intimate—the sound design and the atmosphere of the track grows on you, little by little as it progresses further. Before you know it, you're riding a wave of emotional energy created by the artist himself.

Gravitational waves are ripples in space-time. They are caused by the most violent events in the universe, like the fusion of two black holes. They happen million of light years away, yet are smaller than the size of an atom. It is mind-blowing we were able to detect them. Their Nobel prized discovery will allow us to observe the Universe in a way never before possible.

Netherlands producer Jasper Dietze shared their remix of Chelsea Collins new tune 'Saving Me From Myself' and it's absolutely brilliant. We love the sound design and where Jasper exercised his strengths. The remix feels natural and compliments Chelsea's vocal style wonderfully while providing an electronic undertone fueled by gritty sounds and warm bass-lines. It's a solid remix and another treat from the artist's collection of already stellar remixes on Soundcloud.

Our latest obsession comes from electronic group THAT KIND. Featuring hypnotizing vocal work and deep house elements, THAT KIND delivers a chilling experience with their latest, 'Watching You'. Upon hearing it for the first time, we saw parallels between artists like ZHU but it goes without question that the groups sound is nothing short of amazing and creative. It's almost like a fusion of dark pop and house music. In summary, it's an exciting project and we see a lot of potential for growth and success.

This may just be our favorite Max Styler release. We particularly enjoyed the vocal style and the structure of the arrangement this time around due to its bouncy and colorful production style. It's simple, its fun, and damn its catchy.
Combining elements of deep house with warm bass tones, expressive vocoded vocals, creating the perfect house burner for all of your upcoming activities. Styler's career has skyrocketed over the last year and it's awesome to see the artist move away from his typical glitchy future bass sounds of 2017 and embrace something as fresh as 'Feel It'.

So it's been awhile since we've covered an instrumental on the site (but its for good reason). For us, its really challenging to dig through hundreds of submissions and find something that creatively speaks volume without some sort of imagery from the vocalist. With instrumentals, its extremely difficult because it has to tell a story in order to keep us interested—but that's exactly what electronic producer Mir did with their new song 'resistance'.
Mir craft-fully and successfully channeled his emotions and relayed that energy in the form of an instrumental that grows on you as you listen along. It's really not as easy as it looks but nonetheless, Mir delivers. This new dance record from Tentendo sounds incredible... if you're a fan of house tracks with a soulful R&B vocal top-line, 'Ghost' will hit the sweet spot. Featuring Blasko on vocals, the two artists deliver a catchy new house tune with dark hypnotic undertones. The sound design and the instrumental production sound great in the mix and provide a really intense experience that may or may not cause one to dance uncontrollably.
Tentendo says; 'Ghost came about one winter afternoon in my lounge room with Blasko. I just started flicking through some old beats - most of which I hated but this one stuck out as one which might have potential. We re-worked it a bit and the song was done a couple of hours and a short pizza break later. Ghost is about wanting to be seen, wanting to be visible to someone.'
While this may be Tentendo's second release over the last year, the producer is gearing up to release a string of new music via Majestic Casual and after hearing 'Ghost', I think it's safe to say we're pretty excited to hear what's next. Don't forget to connect with the artist online and enjoy!

We love this new record from indie-pop artist CARDS. Everything from the instrumentation to the vocal style is light, fun, and infectiously catchy. The atmosphere of the track is really warm and inviting and it creates a sort of timeless experience around the song. It's great for relaxing and tapping your foot to or it serves as a great way to get the party started. Either way, you'll be singing or humming along by the end of the song. CARDS has an incredible talent for writing catchy songs but also providing a deep imagery with their lyrical style.
