Watch Model Man's brand new music video here—'Ketones'

December 03, 2018 by Gems Secrets in Electronic

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

After their debut release titled, ‘Alone', brothers Mark and Rob Brandon—aka Model Man—make their return with yet another gem, cultivating a style that explores the depths of organic house music and lush and colorful soundscapes. Accompanying the new release is a gorgeous music video that features a rich cinematic look and feel with a choreographed dance routine designed by Aaron Sillis—who is also known for his work with FKA Twigs, Jungle, and Years and Years.

The entire video was shot on a 16mm film camera and elevates not only the perspective and tone of the song, but the deeper meaning of its inspiration. Model Man proves yet again that artistry is alive and well and we can’t wait to hear more from the duo in the coming months. Don’t forget to connect with the artist online to stay up to date on what’s happening next and enjoy!

WHAT THE ARTIST HAS TO SAY:

Rob Brandon says: ''The idea of dancing to be alone is something we’ve been exploring for a while but it’s an odd, almost comical notion to visualize. We wrote lots of completely different ideas. I struggled to find one leading interpretation of the song. When Aaron Sillis and Dominant Namek got involved; we were able to allow this group of amazing dancers to individually interpret the song how they liked. And then I got to kill them. It was a lot of fun.’’

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

If you’re looking for something epic this morning.. we’ve got you covered. Apashe dropped their music video for ‘Majesty’ recently and it’s absolutely incredible. The track itself takes battle themes and trap music to a whole new level—does the phrase cinematic-trap grab your interest?

The brass section and vocal style combo are an exciting and refreshing sound (you can’t say you’ve heard a lot of releases like this) and the music video only elevates the creative force behind Apashe and Wasiu’s unique production style. WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

We’re obsessed with Emily Rowed’s music video for ‘Pinball’—the lead track off her upcoming 2019 album titled, ‘APRIL’. The music video is a beautiful cinematic masterpiece that we felt elevated the mood and energy of the track quite well. After spending the last year traveling and living out of a suitcase… ‘Pinball’ was finally written and inspired by Emily’s own love story while on the road.

SING ALONG:

Just a little bit longer
Til I’m all up on ya
I can’t keep my hands to myself
Waiting long is bad for my health

Baby you got that
You got exactly what I need
Somethings thrown off my inner peace
But you carry the remedy

Time is running out
No time for talkin’
There’s other ways to use your mouth
Time is running out
A little less talkin’
There’s other ways to use your mouth

Oooh ooh ooh oooh ooooh oooeh oooh ooh

Mmm , A little less talkin

Oooh oooh ooh ooh oooh ooh oh oh
Ooeh ooh oh

come a little bit closer
So I can get all up on ya
Keeping that body to yourself
That’s detrimental for your health
You know I got that
I got that good shit that you need
Don’t be shy you can have a piece
I’ve been waiting here all damn week

Time is running out
No time for talkin’ no
There’s other ways to use your mouth
Time is running out
A little less talkin’
There’s other ways to use your mouth

Oooh ooh ooh oooh ooooh oooeh oooh ooh

Other ways to use your mouth

Oooh oooh ooh ooh oooh ooh oh oh
Ooeh ooh oh

A little less talkin’

I’ve been waitin’ boy
I want a taste more
Of what you got
You hit the spot
Give it all to me
Sugar and spice
You keep me up all night
Every inch of you
Meets every inch of me

Time is running out
No time for talkin, no
There’s other ways to use your mouth
Time is running out
A little less talkin
There’s other ways to use your

Introducing the incredible Julia Knight, listen to their new single 'Cool For You' here

November 21, 2018 by Gems Secrets in Electronic, Indie, Pop

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

Our latest obsession comes from singer/songwriter, Julia Knight. With their new single ‘Cool For You’, we get a small taste of Julia’s incredible talent and lyrical skill. Fresh off their debut via Taste and Tone under Atlantic Records, Julia is already one of our favorite artists of 2018.

Why? Well, when it comes to originality, Julia Knight is a breath of fresh air. Her performance and writing skills come from a genuine place and that’s extremely rare to find in an ocean of mediocrity. This should not be taken lightly. Just you wait and see.

In closing, we can’t wait to hear more from the artist in the coming months, but until then, we’ll be keeping ‘Cool For You’ on constant repeat. Don’t forget to subscribe to Julia Knight online to stay up to date on what’s happening next and enjoy!

WHAT THE ARTIST HAS TO SAY:

“‘cool for you’ is about a super brief relationship that looking back on, I had no business being in really. I met someone in the summer and thought everything was working out, only for it to end abruptly a short couple months later. It’s about trying to be so cool and casual as a way to protect yourself. I hated that.” — Julia Knight

Felony Love - Honestly, it's just a song for y'all to makeout to. Prod. Mike McClellan & Joshy Soul Artwork by Kat Jones

Jay Warren returns with new R&B single 'Felony Love'

November 20, 2018 by Gems Secrets in Ballad, R&B, Hip-Hop

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

By far, Jay Warren is one of the few artist’s we’ve come across since the launch of G&S that truly puts his whole heart and soul into his lyrics and music. Jay’s lyrical style is as vibrant and as powerful as they come. Something that very few have come to appreciate over the years due to the overflow of bland pop-bobs and overly tweaked auto-tune hooks.

But no, not Jay. When it comes to his music releases, the artist lets the music and his vocal performance work its magic… and for us, it works every-time. Don’t forget to subscribe to Jay Warren online to stay up to date on what’s happening next and enjoy!

WHAT THE ARTIST HAS TO SAY:

“Felony Love is interesting because it’s a natural oxymoron. From the title, to the way the music and vocals juxtapose the lyrics. The song speaks to a dysfunctional relationship in which the narrator feels trapped by the love he has for his significant other. The concept of Felony Love is twofold. The narrator feels as though his partner should be charged with Felony, while also realizing the level of love he feels is so overwhelming it should be a crime. He wrestles with the idea of leaving the relationship and why that may be the best option. The music and vocal performance, however, paint a very different picture. The production immerses the listener in the passion and heated romance of the relationship.” — Jay Warren

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

It’s always exciting when a new artist graces our platform with their presence. Today, we’re thrilled to share with you our latest obsession, Girl Wilde aka Alex Barnes—an alt-pop star in the making.

While Girl Wilde is no novice to the music world, the Girl Wilde project was born from a desire to be unrestricted by genre, expectations, and trends. Pretty badass right? With their latest, ‘Nervous Breakdown’, the new song breaks down a vulnerable and honest depiction of the instability of young love—something that’s both relatable and honest.

WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

The incredible Kaien Cruz graced our platform with her new song ‘Dangerous’ and we’ve been obsessed, ever since. When Cruz’s team reached out to share the accompanying music video, we knew we had to share it with our readers.

“I wrote ‘Dangerous’ during a very frustrating time in my life. I’d just realized that a lot of people in this industry that I thought had my back, actually didn’t. So this song is about those people and other things in my life that I thought were good for me, but were only holding me back.” - KAIEN CRUZ
